From Medical Practice
Dr Walter and Gloria Yaworsky recently hosted an elegant dinner party at the LaContessa restaurant in Windsor, Ontario. Over 30 close friends and family members gathered to celebrate the good doctors retirement from medical practice after 37 years of dedicated service.
Dr Yaworsky shared many happy memories of his childhood and young adult life, from Ridna Shkola (taught by his mother Yuliya Yaworska) to his days of active membership in MUNO. Here friendships formed and grew throughout his adult life. On completing his matriculation at Kennedy Collegiate he attended Queens University in Kingston, Ontario where he graduated in 1958 and completed his medical internship at Toronto General Hospital from 1958 to 1959. He worked as a General Practitioner for the International Nickel Company in Sudbury, Ontario from 1959 to 1961 and then did his residency in psychiatry at University Hospital at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan from 1961 to 1965. It was here that Gloria and Mitch met and married on September 25, 1965. He and his new bride moved to Windsor that year to set up his practice in psychiatry. During this time he also served on staff at Hotel Dieu Hospital in Windsor.
His activity in the Ukrainian community was an easy progression with his parents, Michael and Yuliya, setting examples as involved role models. Dr Yaworsky has held various positions on a number of professional organizations. He was involved with the Rotary Club, past president of the Ukrainian Graduates of Windsor & Detroit and current Vice President of the Ukrainian Business & Professionals, Windsor branch. For the past 16 years Dr Yaworsky has held positions of vice president and then president of Windsors Ukrainian National Federation. Dr Yaworsky was recipient of the 1995 Shevchenko Medal award presented by the Ukrainian Canadian Congress Committee. He is also a member of St Vladimir & Olga Ukrainian Catholic Church.
To share this memorable evening with his wife Gloria were sons Paul, who traveled from Boston, Massachusetts and Andrew with wife Nancy from Livonia, Michigan.
To quote Dr. Yaworsky: retirement is wonderful. Mnohaya Lita!
