Ukraine's Foreign Affairs Minister Borys Tarasyuk to visit Canada

The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Borys Tarasyuk will pay an official visit to Canada, June 11-13, 2000 at the invitiation of the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Canada Lloyd Axworthy. Minister Tarasyuk will visit Winnipeg on June 12 and Ottawa on June 13. A delegation of senior official of the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Agriculture will accompany Borys Tarasyuk.
Borys Tarasyuk was appointed the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine on April, 1998. From 1995 to 1998 Borys Tarasyuk was the Ukrainian Ambassador to Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg. He also represented Ukraine in the European Union and was the first Head of a Ukrainian Mission to NATO.
In 1992-95 Borys Tarasyuk was Deputy Minister, later First Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine. He also served at the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to the United Nations, New York, from 1981 to 1986.
During his stay in Winnipeg Minister Tarasyuk will meet with Canadian Foreign Minister Lloyd Axworthy, Senate Speaker Gildas Molgat, Premier Gary Doer of Manitoba as well as representatives of Canadian-Ukrainian community. He will lay a wreath to the Monument of the great Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko and to the Memorial dedicated to the millions of victims of the 1932-33 Manmade Famine in Ukraine.
The Minister will deliver a speech at a business breakfast at the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce informing of current transformations in Ukraine's economy and of new opportunities in developing Ukraine-Canada cooperation.
Minister Tarasyuk and Minister Axworthy will hold a joint press conference.
On June 13, Minister Tarasyuk will visit Ottawa where he will meet with the Minister of Defence Art Eggleton, Minister for International Cooperation Maria Minna, Minister of Public Works Alfonso Gagliano and other senior officials.
Minister Tarasyuk will speak to journalists at the National Press Club. He will also visit with key business figures and pay tribute to the Peacekeeping Monument.
