Press ReleaseForeign Minister Borys Tarasiuk Meets with UN Secretary General Kofi AnnanSeptember 24, 1999 (#73)Download complete file in MS-WORD A meeting of Foreign Minister Borys Tarasiuk with UN Secretary General Kofi Annan has become the central event of the thrid day of the Ukrainian delegation's work at the 54th session of the UN General Assembly. During the meeting, Borys Tarasiuk said that one of main aims of the Ukrainian delegation during the session is to secure support for the convocation of the second Conference of donor-nations for financing the Chornobyl-related Shelter project. Kofi Annan noted a weighty contribution made by Ukraine in strengthening stability and security in the world, participation of Ukrainian peacekeepers in UN operations for maintaning peace, in particular, in Kosovo, as well as a regular payment by Ukraine of current dues to the Organisation's budget despite complicated economic situation. The Secretary General promised to visit Ukraine at invitation by President Leonid Kuchma. Foreign Minister Tarasiuk made an official address to the UN with a request to send observers to Ukraine for a period of the presidential election campaign and elections themselves.
